We held a Bible study in our home on Tuesday nights, and these
studies are the ones we've taught. My husband, Dewey, and I have shared the teaching of these Bible studies for many years. All three of our children tell us how great it was to grow up in a home where the Word of God was taught. (And I thought they weren't listening!)
Wonderful, long-lasting relationships have come from those times. Even though now many of us are scattered across the U.S., we visit and write. We've watched our kids grow up, marry and have little ones of their own. What a family we're part of!
Harry Ironside, the great, early 20th century Bible teacher (No, I'm not that old!) once advised, "put the cookies on the bottom shelves so all can reach them." I hope that's what I did.
The New American Standard Bible and the New International Version are the two we use most often. Some of the studies were also done using the New Living Translation. Dewey was the one who taught from that version but to be sure of accuracy when a Bible study was done using this translation it was very carefully compared with the NASB and the NIV. Although, we do quote from other translations as well. In fact, one of my (Kathy's) favorite paraphrases is J.B. Phillip's New Testament.
Also in the mix will be short studies and devotionals from three of our favorite teachers, Dr. J. Vernon McGee and Max Lucado and Chuck Swindoll. And don't be surprised if some others pop up from time to time. There will be a link to their sites from those pages and of course neither of us claims to be in the league with any of these great teachers so their names will appear as the source. We believe in giving credit where credit is due. We know you will enjoy these as much as we have.
I hope you enjoy reading them as much as we enjoyed preparing them.
If you have a passage of Scripture or a verse that you are having trouble understanding, we invite you to email the question and let's explore it together and find the answer. You can reach us at FireQuill@cox.net
